NAMUGA announced on the 8th that it has appointed Yoon Young-Kwon, a former Samsung Electronics master, as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and head of the research lab.
CTO Yoon worked at Samsung Electronics for 24 years, where he developed industry-leading mobile camera technologies, such as a 200-megapixel camera, 10x zoom, and iris recognition technology. He is recognized as an expert with 129 patents to his name.
At NAMUGA, CTO Yoon will lead not only the smartphone camera module development team but also the teams responsible for next-generation technologies, including the 3D sensing camera team and the micro-actuator development team, according to the company.
NAMUGA’s goal is to develop solutions that can be applied to new industries such as extended reality (XR), medical devices, security, and mobility by leveraging camera module and 3D sensing technologies.
CTO Yoon emphasized, "Not only RGB (red, green, blue) cameras but also cameras that provide infrared (IR) and Time-of-Flight (ToF) data will combine with artificial intelligence (AI) to create new value unlike anything before."
NAMUGA's CEO Lee Dong-Ho said, "With CTO Yoon's research experience and vision, we plan to lead innovation in camera technology," adding, "We look forward to his role in expanding our capabilities and entering new markets."
